| Mary Chen, Sc.M. Mary was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. In 1985 her family immigrated to the SF Bay Area; she was ten years old. Mary received her undergraduate degree from UC Davis (Environmental Biology) and worked in the biotech industry for 2 years before attending graduate school at Johns Hopkins University, School of Public Health (Molecular Microbiology and Immunology). She received her MS in May 2000 and joined the Quertermous lab in October 2000. She’s currently working on a mouse knock-out of a gene which encodes for a small peptide that may be involved in cardiovascular disease. Mary enjoys swimming (butterfly being her favorite), culinary experimentation (especially sushi), and soy lattes. Friends describe her as boisterous, funky, and a bon vivant. She resides in Fremont CA with her husband Tom.
